Workforce Development, Training & Technology Transfer

This pillar, led by the Department of Employment, Training, and Technology Transfer, is dedicated to fostering a highly skilled workforce that is essential for driving Sierra Leone’s economic transformation. By equipping citizens—particularly young people—with relevant and in-demand skills, the agency aims to bridge the gap between education and employment while strengthening local participation in key industries.

Strategic Focus Areas:

1️⃣ Workforce Skill Development & Capacity Building

A well-trained workforce is a fundamental driver of economic growth. In collaboration with Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions, the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education, and other vocational training bodies, the Directorate will design and implement non-degree courses tailored to meet the evolving needs of employers.

2️⃣ Nationwide Skills Gap Survey & Curriculum Development

To ensure training programs align with real-world industry demands, the Directorate will conduct a comprehensive skills gap survey across the country. Insights from this research will inform the development of customized training curricula that address existing workforce deficiencies and enhance employment prospects for Sierra Leoneans.

3️⃣ Positioning Citizens for the Job Market

The Sierra Leone Local Content Agency (SLLCA) is committed to ensuring that Sierra Leoneans are well-prepared for job opportunities by equipping them with practical, job-ready skills. Through structured training programs and strategic partnerships, this pillar seeks to enhance employability, boost local hiring, and foster knowledge transfer between multinational firms and the local workforce.

As a member of the TVET Coalition, the agency actively collaborates with key stakeholders to advance technical education, promote workforce readiness, and support technology transfer initiatives. This coordinated effort will not only increase employment opportunities but also empower Sierra Leoneans to take on skilled roles across various industries, ensuring sustainable economic progress.
